March for Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women (MMIW)

Walk with us.

You may be aware of this important issue, many people in our community are not. Please join us in raising awareness for our missing and murdered Native sisters.

Together we can take this important step in the path towards ending the violence against our Native women.

The crisis of Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls (MMIWG) is prevalent here in our Billings community and more widely in the state of Montana. According to a National Criminal Justice Reference Service (NCJRS) grantee report, “some counties have rates of murder against American Indian/Alaska Native (AI/AN) women that are over ten times the national average,” while in Billings itself there are at least 29 MMIWG cases, as reported by the Urban Indian Health Institute MMIW report.

We, as a community of Natives and Native supporters, are coming together to raise awareness on this important issue. Montana State University - Billings Native American Achievement Center, Rocky Mountain Tribal Leaders Council, the Native American Development Corporation, and Western Native Voice have partnered to host a MMIW March from MSU-B Campus to the Yellowstone County Courthouse Park on Friday, April 5th from 10am-12pm. From 11pm-12pm we will have a variety of speakers on the Courthouse lawn to talk about law, policy, and to share their experiences.
