Get To Know The VIC Volunteers

Volunteer Spotlight: Alberta

If you visit our Visitor Information Center here in Billings, you will always be met with a smile from one of our volunteers.  Our volunteers love talking about the city they call home, and they are always happy to showcase the best that Billings has to offer.

Getting to know these volunteers has been a highlight of working at Visit Billings, and I always look forward to hearing what’s new in their lives.  Our volunteers always seem to have a story to share.  When I was tasked with writing something for the Visit Billings blog, I thought it would be interesting to ask our volunteers a few questions about Billings and a few fun questions they may not hear from the average visitor.

First up for the volunteer spotlight is Alberta.  Alberta has been volunteering with Visit Billings and other organizations for the past two years.  She is a year round volunteer at the Visitor Information Center, and is always willing to lend a helping hand.  Her positivity is contagious, and she was one of the first people I thought deserved some extra recognition for the great job she does.  Let’s jump into the questions!

What do you enjoy doing in Billings?

I enjoy the live theaters and musicals. But most of all, I enjoy volunteering!

What’s your favorite restaurant?

Anywhere close to home, but my favorite are places that serve a good breakfast.

How long have you lived in Billings?

19 years!

Have you had any interaction with a visitor that stands out and is really positive?

Oh absolutely!  I really enjoyed meeting a visiting couple from Switzerland.  They were so nice and friendly, and they even invited me to visit them in their country!

Is that the farthest you’ve had a visitor come from?

Hmm… I don’t really know.  We’ve had some from Paris, Germany, and some from south and central America.  I’ve had one from Africa, too.

What do you recommend visitors see when they visit Billings?

A lot of the questions I get are about hotels and dining, but I try to encourage locations on Montana Avenue, like the wonderful restaurants and historic spots.  In the summer, I always recommend the Beartooth Pass.  I also like Pompey’s Pillar because it’s so close.

Do you know any jokes?

My problem is I know a lot of jokes, but I always forget the punchline…

Do you have a favorite book?

I like a lot of different stories, but I love mysteries.

What’s your favorite hobby?

I like to make quilts, especially for my grandchildren!

What’s your dream destination for a vacation?

I’d like to go to Rome first, and then I might like to look up the couple in Switzerland that was here.  But there are so many things that I’ve still yet to do in United States, there’s so much to do in our country.
