Announcing the first film to play this year as part of our ongoing Nostalgia Night series! Wednesday, June 15th, we're winding it back to 1985 for a special screening of Savage Steve Holland's bizarre romantic comedy, BETTER OFF DEAD, at the historic Babcock Theatre in celebration of the film's 40th anniversary! BETTER OFF DEAD is splendid blend of eccentricity and playfully morbid satire regarding the fixations of America's youth; a blend that results in a seriously entertaining time capsule of mid-80s nostalgia, starring John Cusack in one of his first major roles!
High school student Lane Meyer sinks into a suicidal depression after his girlfriend dumps him and gets with the high school ski racing champion, Roy Stalin. Amid his struggle with depression and suicidal ideation while trying to find ways to regain some confidence and optimism, Lane has to deal with his eccentric and ignorant family members, a tenacious paperboy, and a strange neighbor whose mother is hosting an attractive French exchange student.
